Classical guitar meets Balkan traditions
Duo Eklektiko is a Mississippi-based ensemble that shares the folk music of the Balkan peninsula while also exploring guitar and piano repertoire from Europe’s classical and contemporary art music. Tanja Mirić (guitar) and Sarah Vasaly Waters (voice/piano) perform Tanja’s arrangement of sevdalinka from her native Bosnia. Their music bridges the soulful folk traditions of the Balkans and art music from the Mediterranean and beyond, revealing connections across centuries and cultures.

ABOUT US
Tanja Mirić, native of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has been playing the guitar for over three decades. She holds music degrees from Mississippi College, Southern Methodist University, and the University of Minnesota. She has performed at many events, such as the Guitar Foundation of America Showcase (Louisville, KY), Fort Worth Guitar Festival, St. Louis Classical Guitar Society, and the Schubert Club Courtroom Concert Series (Saint Paul, MN). Tanja is also a dedicated arranger and author, with two dozen published books for solo and duo guitar. She has been honored with multiple grants from the Mississippi Arts Commission in support of her creative work.
Sarah Vasaly Waters teaches music history and private voice at Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi, where she is also a staff accompanist. She completed her DMA at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Originally from Washington, D.C., her research, writing, and conference presentations include the Mississippi Blues and Choctaw sacred music. As a performer, her experiences have encompassed French jazz at a local club, Irish music at Jackson’s CelticFest, and now Bosnian sevdalinka in collaboration with Tanja.
